Woman arrested for selling fake cosmetics

Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested a 21-year-old woman student and seized counterfeit cosmetics and a computer worth $29,000 in total.

Acting on reports about the sale of fake cosmetics on a local auction website, officers found suspected bogus cosmetics and make-up tools being sold on the site at prices up to 70% cheaper than authentic products.

An undercover officer contacted the suspect and deposited money into a designated bank account. The officer went to Tuen Mun Light Rail Station for the trade and arrested the woman at scene yesterday afternoon, seizing fake cosmetic items and make-up tools.

Another 345 counterfeit cosmetics and make-up tools were later found inside a Tin Shui Wai flat. A computer suspected to have been used for conducting the online auctions was also seized.

The public should beware of pirated goods when shopping online, and contact the trademark owners if they doubt the goods' authenticity.

Call the Customs 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 to report online piracy.
