The Security Bureau has received 400 written submissions in its public consultation on the proposed Medical Priority Dispatch System, showing a majority of the public support the proposal.
Initial analysis indicated more than 70% of respondents agreed ambulance response should be prioritised in accordance with the degree of urgency of the calls.
More than 60% supported the proposed response time targets and performance pledge while more than 70% thought the provision of post-dispatch advice before the arrival of ambulances was useful.
The bureau expects more submissions will be received by post. It will consider all comments and views before finalising its proposal.
It will report the analysis result to the Legislative Council Security Panel early next year.
Under the proposed system, response to ambulance calls will be prioritised according to the degree of urgency to provide quicker response to patients in critical or life-threatening condition.
The four-month consultation ended yesterday.
