Man arrested for software piracy

*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested an 18-year-old man for selling infringing computer software products online, seizing two computers.

Officers found messages in an online forum on the sale of illicit software for $300. The software would be uploaded to the forum for the customer to download upon receipt of payment.

An officer posed as a customer and contacted the suspect and deposited the money into a bank account. After downloading the software yesterday morning and confirming it was a right-infringing version, officers arrested the man at his Ma On Shan home. He has been released on $1,000 bail.

Call 2545 6182 to report software piracy.
