37 arrested in illegal employment raids

Labour Department

Twenty-four illegal workers and 13 employers have been arrested in operations conducted by the Labour Department, Police and Immigration Department, September 23 to 29.

 

Operations were conducted in Chai Wan, North Point, Sau Mau Ping, Hung Hom, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok, Kwai Chung, Tsuen Wan, Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Lok Ma Chau and Tin Shui Wai.

 

Officers raided 45 premises, including retail shops, eateries, renovation sites, massage parlours and a cemetery.

 

Eleven were working as renovators, five as shop assistants, five as waiters, cooks or general workers in eateries, two as masseurs and one in a cemetery. They all came from the Mainland. Two were over-staying in Hong Kong.

 

Thirteen employers or people-in-charge were taken to police stations for questioning.
