2 jailed for food scam

A hotel manager and a meat supplier have been jailed by the District Court for their roles in a food supply scam.

 

Former Renaissance Kowloon Hotel purchasing manager To Yiu-cho, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of accepting an advantage and was sentenced to two years' jail, and ordered to pay $110,000 restitution to the hotel. A similar offence against him was left on the court file.

 

Between May 1, 2005, and March 19, 2007, To accepted bribes totalling $110,000 from four suppliers as reward for placing food orders.

 

Nin Xing Fresh Meat proprietor Chong Kam-sing, 35, admitted to one count of offering advantages and was jailed six months.

 

Between March 1, 2006, and April 21, 2007, Chong offered three sums of money totalling $7,000 to To for placing orders with Nin Xing.
