Two chefs have been jailed three months by Eastern Magistracy for accepting bribes from a frozen food supplier as reward for placing orders with their restaurants.

Lai Hing-min, 38, former head chef of Que Pasa Tequila Bar & Cantina, and Sin Yiu-ki, 32, former head chef of BB's Bistro, pleaded guilty to counts of accepting an advantage.

Lai and Sin were responsible for placing purchase orders with suppliers for their restaurants.

Lai admitted he accepted from Gordon Chau - the operator of Candie's Food Supplies - rebates equivalent to 5% of the total value of purchase orders placed with the company since 2003. He received $2,000 from Chau on the last occasion on May 5.

Sin admitted he accepted a 5% rebate totalling $4,000 from Chau for placing food orders with Candie's on two occasions in April and May.
