Man jailed for election offence
*
ICAC

A 2007 Village Representative Election voter has been jailed two months by Sha Tin Magistracy for committing a voting offence in the election for Wo Liu Hang in Sha Tin.

Lai Man-chun, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of corrupt conduct in voting in an election.

On March 17, 2003, he submitted to the Home Affairs Department a voter registration application claiming he had been a Wo Liu Hang resident for the three years immediately before making the application. However, he had moved from Wo Liu Hang in 1998.

In 2006 the department published a final register of electors with the defendant as an eligible elector. It did not receive any changes about the defendant's particulars, including his residential address. He had voted at the election knowing he was not entitled to do so.
