Customs seizes $200m in smuggled goods
*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have seized $200 million worth of goods in the largest ever sea-smuggling case.

On October 16, Marine Enforcement Group officers stopped a river trade vessel heading for Zhaoqing, Guangdong in the Hong Kong waters and held 32 containers, declared to contain "Plastic Waste", for examination. Smuggled goods worth $200 million were found inside.

Officers then raided six companies in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Kwun Tong and Sheung Wan, and arrested three people, believed to be members of the smuggling syndicate. The investigation is ongoing.
