Truck driver arrested for smuggling

*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers have arrested a 50-year-old truck driver after seizing seven silver bars and more than 1,700 computer RAMs smuggled aboard a departing container truck at Man Kam To Control Point.

The seizure, including the truck, was worth about $1.2 million.

Officers stopped the truck, declared to be carrying plastic resin, on October 14. An X-ray found a hidden compartment behind the mudguard of the left front wheel and the goods were found inside.

The silver bars weighed 210kg in total.

The driver has been released on bail.
