Path Builders launching ceremony
New path: Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung and guests launch the Path Builders anti-drug initiative.

Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung has launched a new anti-drug initiative which will mobilise the community in fostering a drug-free and caring culture.

Launching the Path Builders youth care initiative today Mr Wong said the scheme will encourage the community to help young people lead a positive life and aid them in tackling addiction.

Commercial organisations can offer visit opportunities, training places, internships or job opportunities to young people, and establish an anti-drug culture in their firms or encourage staff to be volunteers.

"Doctors and lawyers could speak of the serious consequences of drug abuse. Other professionals could share their knowledge and life experience with young people through mentorship programmes or talks," Mr Wong said.

"Social bodies and individuals could contribute their talent, reach out as anti-drug ambassadors, or provide sponsorship or donations for the anti-drug cause."

Various chambers of commerce have already pledged to join the ranks of Path Builders, while some district commercial, medical, sports, educational and youth services groups will jointly run development programmes for young people.

An exhibition on ways to help the younger generation will be held at Pacific Place until September 21. Click here for more information or call 2868 5916.
