Nine drivers have been arrested for speeding and/or drink driving in a four-hour blitz along the New Territories-bound highways that ended at 6.30am today. Two others were summonsed for speeding, and 67 fixed-penalty tickets were issued.

The New Territories South Traffic Task Force set up two laser guns with six road blocks on Tai Po Road and Kwai Chung Road.

Of the nine arrested, one was for speeding and failing to provide a breath test, five were for speeding and drink driving, and three were for drink driving.

The highest speed recorded by a drink driver on Tai Po Road was 139km per hour, exceeding the 80kph speed-limit.

Police stressed drink driving is a major factor in serious road accidents and offenders are liable to a $25,000 maximum fine, three years' jail and 10 driving-offence points or suspension from driving.
