16 arrested for credit card fraud
*
Hong Kong Police

Police have arrested five men and 11 women aged 20 to 47 in connection with a suspected credit card fraud syndicate, seizing forged documents and recovering goods purchased with bogus cards.

A local bank reported in January it detected suspected fake credit card applications. Police believe the syndicate fraudulently applied to local banks for credit credits using bogus documents and forged identity cards. It used the cards to buy goods like watches, handbags, jewellery and electronic products and then dispose of them in a second-hand retail outlet.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man when he was disposing the goods at a Causeway Bay shop yesterday. The suspects are being held for questioning.
