Ambrose Lee speaks at a luncheon seminar
Drug-free society: Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee says a Hong Kong-wide campaign will launch in late June to encourage the community to fight youth drug abuse.

A Hong Kong-wide campaign will launch in late June to encourage the community to fight youth drug abuse, Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee says.

Speaking at a luncheon seminar today Mr Lee said the campaign will tie in with the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking.

He said the Government and the Action Committee Against Narcotics will enhance preventive education by launching publicity activities after the campaign, which will last until 2010.

The activities include a new series of television and radio announcements in the public interest, posters, an anti-drug theme song, leaflets and booklets.

District Councils, District Fight Crime Committees and other organisations will organise district level anti-drug activities.

The Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse led by the Secretary for Justice has conducted an in-depth examination on youth drug abuse in the past few months. It has devised initial measures in the short to medium term, covering law enforcement, preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation, and research.
