Tuen Mun Magistracy has jailed a jobless man five months for trying to solicit and accept advantages from a 2007 District Council Election candidate.

Leung Ngar-yan, 52, was found guilty of three counts of attempting to engage in corrupt conduct at an election.

Wong Yu-choi, an incumbent member of the Yuen Long District Council, intended to stand for the 2007 Yuen Long District Council Election.

The defendant told Wong his chance was not good and asked him to give him money to "socialise" with electors. Wong turned down the request.

The defendant later told Wong he already ensured 400 electors would vote for him and asked Wong for a payment of $300 for each vote, totalling $120,000.

Wong provided him with $2,000 bait money and the defendant was arrested by Independent Commission Against Corruption officers.
