Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers arrested five people after shutting down an unlicensed liquor manufacturing factory in Fo Tan, seizing 5,500 litres of untaxed rice wine.

The alcohol, worth $160,000 and with a duty potential of $32,000, was seized from an industrial building where unused labels, empty bottles, packing utensils and bottling machinery were also found. Officers also seized the wine from 20 retail outlets.

The company director and four employees arrested, aged 37 to 71, have been released on bail.
