446 tickets issued in traffic day blitz

Police issued 446 fixed penalty tickets and 35 summonses to motorists and pedestrians violating traffic regulations during the Hong Kong Island Regional Traffic Day.

 

The operation concluded at 7pm today and saw 188 officers enforce traffic laws at accident blackspots on Hong Kong Island. They gave verbal warnings to 64 pedestrians and 225 drivers for minor offences, and issued 290 fixed penalty tickets for illegal parking and 156 for other traffic offences.

 

There were 3,237 traffic accidents involving casualties on Hong Kong Island last year, with 54% attributed to pedestrian negligence.
