Proprietor fined for unsafe work conditions
*

Hung Kin Engineering has been fined $80,000 at Kowloon City Magistracy for failing to provide and maintain a safe work system for its staff.

A worker was electrocuted when he was holding a portable floodlight for illumination at a To Kwa Wan construction site on May 9.

According to the Factories & Industrial Undertakings Ordinance any proprietor who fails to provide and maintain a work system that is safe and without risk to workers' health is liable to a fine of $500,000 and six months' jail.

The ordinance also states proprietors should provide supervision to ensure workers' health and safety. Failure to do so warrants a fine of $500,000 and six months' jail.
