97 arrested for drug offences at checkpoints

*
Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers arrested 97 people at land boundary checkpoints for drug offences from January to November.

Customs & Excise Department Drug Investigation Bureau Head Ben Leung said 26 people aged under 21 were arrested from January to December 19. Drugs seized included ketamine, Erimin-5 and ecstasy worth $890,000.

Sniffer dogs cracked 29 cases and seized drugs worth $124 million.

Mr Leung said the department will maintain close contact with local and overseas enforcement agencies to strengthen intelligence exchange to deter cross-boundary drug trafficking.
