Enforcement against illegal importation of meat and live poultry into Hong Kong has been enhanced for the upcoming winter solstice.
A total of 363 cases were detected at boundary checkpoints November 1 to December 15. About 930kg of pork, 470kg of chicken and 240kg of other meat, including duck, beef and mutton, worth $49,600 in total, was seized.
The Food & Environmental Hygiene, Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation and Customs & Excise Departments reminded people they face prosecution if they bring illicit meat or live poultry into Hong Kong. People must obtain an official certificate or valid health certificate from the exporting country before they can import any meat.
