The Eastern Magistracy has jailed a 35-year-old woman for one year after she was convicted of passing counterfeit bank notes.

On August 24, a 22-year-old woman went to a bank in Central to deposit 121 $500 notes. The teller suspected 21 of the banknotes were counterfeit and contacted Police. Officers arrested the woman at the bank.

The woman told Police the 35-year-old defendant had asked her to deposit the money, and she did not know any banknotes were counterfeit. The older woman was arrested the same day.

The two women were later jointly charged with one count of passing counterfeit banknotes. The younger woman's charge was later dismissed.
