A frozen meat company operator and an accounting supervisor have been jailed for up to 30 months by the District Court for bribery and fraud in relation to food supplies.

Lau Chor-lam, 57, operator of Shing Kam Ho, was sentenced to 30 months' jail while Lau Tung-kai, 73, accounting supervisor of the Cityplaza Harbour and Grand Lord Seafood Restaurants, was jailed for one year.

Between January 1999 and December 2005 Shing Kam Ho was a frozen meat supplier for hotels, restaurants and clubs. Lau Chor-lam offered regular bribes to chefs or purchasing officers of establishments and, in return, staff placed orders with the company and did not complain about the quality of goods delivered.

Lau Chor-lam also conspired with Lau Tung-kai to defraud the Cityplaza Harbour and Grand Lord Seafood Restaurants by submitting false invoices to them.

They were arrested by the Independent Commission Against Corruption and charged with bribery and related offences.
