Grenville Cross wins seat on global legal body
*
Department of Justice

Director of Public Prosecutions Grenville Cross has been elected as an executive committee member of the International Association of Prosecutors - the first prosecutor from Hong Kong to sit on the committee.

Mr Cross considers his election a great honour for the prosecutors of Hong Kong. It is a welcome recognition of the status Hong Kong's prosecution service enjoys at the international level, he said. He looks forward to working closely with senior prosecutors at the highest levels to promote global anti-crime strategies.

Elected for a three-year term at the association's general meeting in Hong Kong today, Mr Cross will represent the region of Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia.

Established in 1995 at the United Nations offices in Vienna, the International Association of Prosecutors is the first and only world organisation of prosecutors. The executive committee, which has 10 to 30 members, is the association's managing and administrative body.

The Department of Justice Prosecutions Division joined the association as its 75th organisational member in 2001.
