9 arrested for $8.6m camera heist

Police have arrested eight men and a woman for a theft and a robbery case in which more than $8.6 million in digital cameras were stolen.

 

The operation was mounted yesterday after a victim reported that his stolen cameras were up for sale in a Tsim Sha Tsui shop. Raids in two other branches of the same shop in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay led to the arrest of four men aged 37 to 51, with 29 cameras recovered.

 

Two other trading companies in Kowloon Bay and Mong Kong were also raided seeing 253 digital cameras recovered. A 50-year-old woman and two men aged 30 and 37 were arrested for handling stolen goods.

 

Today Police raided two other trading companies in Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Bay, arresting two men aged 48 and 49.

 

The theft case occurred on June 18, with more than 1,500 cameras worth more than $1.5 million stolen from a truck in Sheung Shui. The robbery occurred on February 8 with 7,000 cameras worth $7.1 million taken from a truck in Lai Chi Kok.

 

All have been detained for questioning.
