Illegal meat seized

Customs & Excise Department

Customs officers seized 47kg of fresh pork, chicken, pigeon and duck worth $3,000 from six arriving passengers at Lo Wu in a joint operation with the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department today.

 

Similar joint operations will be held to curb illegal meat imports. Importers must carry an official certificate to import meat. Offenders face a $50,000 fine and six months' jail.

 

From January 1 to August 27 Customs officers detected 298 similar cases at Lo Wu, seizing 1,333kg of pork, 886kg of chicken and 272kg of other meat worth about $41,300.
