Troops review: Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries & Conditions of Service Chairman Nicky Lo inspects a contingent of police officers at a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College.

The professional work and achievements of the Police Force have won wide acclaim and high public confidence and satisfaction, as evidenced by independent public opinion polls in recent years, Standing Commission on Civil Service Salaries & Conditions of Service Chairman Nicky Lo says.

Inspecting a passing-out parade at the Hong Kong Police College today, Mr Lo said Hong Kong has undergone considerable social and economic changes since the reunification, and the increasingly high public expectations have brought numerous challenges to the Force.

Mr Lo said the civil-service system of salaries and conditions of service provides police officers with the job security for a dedicated career of public service, adding this is precisely the aim of the civil-service pay policy, which is to offer sufficient remuneration to attract, retain and motivate staff of a suitable calibre to provide the public with an effective and efficient service.

He called on the graduating officers to put into practice the discipline, knowledge and skills they have acquired from training, and shoulder the responsibility of serving the community and maintaining law and order.

A total of 15 probationary inspectors and 199 recruit constables passed out today.
