The Security Bureau has refuted recent rumours that people claiming right of abode in Hong Kong would be granted amnesty during the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
It stressed the Government would not grant any amnesty and urged those concerned not to be misled.
The Court of Final Appeal handed down a judgment on right-of-abode cases in January, 2002, and laid down a clear legal basis for handling these cases.
The Government will continue to act in strict accordance with the court's judgment. People without right of abode in Hong Kong in accordance with the court's judgment must return to the Mainland. Eligible people may apply for one-way permits to settle in Hong Kong.
