A 60-year-old man has been jailed two years by Eastern Magistracy for using a false instrument and possessing false instruments with intent.

He and a 53-year-old woman produced a US$1-million banknote and attempted to deposit it into their account at a bank in Central last September. Staff called Police and the pair were arrested. Officers seized some false documents including bank statements and account reference letters from the woman's handbag.

They were charged with using a false instrument and possessing false instruments with intent. The woman was acquitted.
