UN anti-graft convention to apply in HK
*

Law revisions are being made to implement the requirements of confiscation of proceeds, extradition and mutual legal assistance under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Hong Kong, the Constitutional Affairs Bureau says.

The convention has been ratified by the Central Government and entered into force for China, including Hong Kong.

After the revision, the Hong Kong Government will also be able to apply to the court for the freezing, seizure and confiscation of proceeds or property derived from offences of soliciting and accepting bribes.

The Fugitive Offenders (Corruption) Order will be gazetted May 25 and tabled to lawmakers May 30. The Organised & Serious Crimes Ordinance (Amendment to Schedule 2) Order 2007 and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (Corruption) Order will be introduced to Legislative Council for approval in June.
