Customs have foiled attempts of a transnational syndicate to smuggle dangerous drugs from the Golden Crescent area, through India or Thailand, to Hong Kong, seizing 6kg of high-grade heroin with a retail value of about $2.7 million. Eight Thai women aged 22 to 48 have been charged.
Customs cracked seven transnational drug-trafficking cases at the airport from March 21 to April 16.
The eight Thai women were used to smuggle concealed drugs, hiding them inside their body or in baggage compartments, shoe soles, underwear and sanitary napkins.
Close intelligence exchange between the Mainland Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau and Hong Kong Customs resulted in the success.
