$31m in smuggled goods seized
*
Hong Kong Police

Marine Police have arrested a 42-year-old man for smuggling electronic products worth $31 million at Wong Shek Pier in Sai Kung.

About 7am today, a light truck and three speedboats were approaching the pier at the same time. The boats were seen unloading cargo that was then lifted into the vehicle. When officers stepped in, the boats fled and left behind some goods.

The 42-year-old male truck driver was arrested after failing to produce a valid manifest.

A total of 251 boxes of electronics products including video and digital cameras, projectors, LCD screens, computer hard disks and chips were seized.

The case will be handed to the Customs & Excise Department.
