High Court judge appointed

*

The Judiciary has appointed Darryl Gordon Saw as a Court of First Instance Judge, from January 15.

 

As Mr Saw was the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, he will not, for six months after joining the Judiciary, deal with any criminal trials or appeals or any civil cases involving the Government.

 

An Australian born in 1948, Mr Saw was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, as well as the High Court of Australia in 1972. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1997 in Hong Kong.

 

Mr Saw joined the then Legal Department as Crown Counsel in 1987 and was promoted to Senior Crown Counsel a year after, Deputy Principal Crown Counsel in 1995 and Principal Government Counsel in 1999. He took up the post of Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in 1999.
