Leisure & Cultural Services Department

Leisure & Cultural Services Department will step up patrols at parks, beaches and barbecue sites during the Mid-Autumn Festival, with 1,000 staff being deployed nightly from October 5 to 7 to curb littering and wax burning.

Litterbugs will be issued with fixed-penalty tickets of $1,500. Wax burners will be liable to a $2,000 fine and 14 days jail.

People should keep venues clean and tidy when celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. They should pack up their rubbish for proper disposal into litter bins. Metal cans or non-flammable containers should be placed under lit candles to collect melted wax for easy disposal into litter bins.

Wax burning can be reported on the department's hotline 2414 5555, which will operate from 7pm to midnight October 5 and 7. Department staff will be immediately deployed to the scene for enforcement action.
