Online crime warning issued
*
Hong Kong Police

Police advise people to use the Internet wisely and legally, warning that laws prohibiting criminality in the physical world, such as the publication of child pornography, infringement of personal data and copyright materials, and fraud, also apply to criminal acts online.

The warning comes as Police investigate the publishing of an online message suggesting the use of explosives to threaten lives and property. The serious offence warrants up to 20 years jail.

Police advised people to also refrain from responding to any criminal element they may come across on the Internet inadvertently.

Police will work closely with Internet service providers, webmasters, discussion forums and the like to ensure no abuse of cyberspace in Hong Kong.
