Denise Yue at passing-out parade
Troops review: Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue inspects the 134 new recruit constables at their passing-out parade.

Secretary for the Civil Service Denise Yue commended the Police Force for enhancing its performance through innovative measures - despite its limited resources.

Reviewing a passing-out parade of 134 recruit constables at the Hong Kong Police College today, Miss Yue said the Force had been working hard to cut manpower and operational expenses as the Government's fiscal position tightened in the past few years.

Noting the Force was actively exploring options for implementing a five-day week, she was confident the Commissioner of Police would strike a balance between operational needs and colleagues' aspirations.

"Their challenge is to ensure the provision of round-the-clock frontline police service while abiding by the Administration's decision of not incurring additional resources for the five-day week arrangement," she added.

She encouraged the graduating officers to make best use of the learning ladder and the opportunities for continuing education the Police College offers, and equip themselves to keep up with society's rapidly changing needs.
