Three Food & Environmental Hygiene Department staff have been convicted for bribery in relation to Fu Shan Crematorium services.

Deputy District Court Judge Colin Mackintosh adjourned sentencing to September 7, pending background reports. The defendants were remanded in custody.

Liu Weng-kee, 57, Tang Wan-hing, 52, and Leung Ying-ming, 53, were found guilty of three charges of conspiracy for a public servant to accept advantages.

Between July 1997 and March 2004, Liu and Leung conspired together to accept payments from a funeral parlour agent. In return, they ensured that corpses submitted by the agent would be cremated expeditiously, and that oversized coffins would see a smooth cremation.

Between September 2001 and March 2004, the trio also conspired together to accept bribes from two other funeral parlour agents, ranging from $80 to $100 on each occasion.
