Permanent home: The new Marine Outer Waters District Headquarters & Marine North Division Operational Base Complex is in Ma Liu Shui.

Police have opened the new Marine Outer Waters District Headquarters & Marine North Division Operational Base Complex in Ma Liu Shui.

Opening the facility today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management) Gordon Fung said it will help Police meet demand from Hong Kong's expanding trade with neighbouring ports and booming maritime transport and logistics industries.

"To keep abreast of the times, the Police force must, in its development strategy, upgrade aspects of its infrastructure in various areas and renew its existing hardware when necessary."

The location had been used as a ferry pier until it was converted into a makeshift base 14 years ago.

"Despite such temporary facilities, my colleagues who were posted here worked hard to overcome the difficulties posed by the shortcomings of the building environment, as they maintained their services to the public. Their professionalism of such a high order surely merits praise," Mr Fung said.

The Outer Waters District Headquarters and all associated personnel are now housed under one roof with the Marine North Division, enhancing internal communication and administrative efficiency.
