1 dead, 25 injured in 5-vehicle pile-up
*
Hong Kong Police

A 40-year-old bus driver died in a five-vehicle pile-up in Tsing Yi this morning, while 25 other people were injured.

At about 8.35am, three coaches, a van and a bus were travelling along the Cheung Tsing Tunnel towards Kowloon. The coaches and van slowed due to traffic congestion, but the bus behind reportedly failed to brake and collided into the van. This triggered a chain reaction as the van was shoved into the coaches in front.

The 40-year-old bus driver was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was certified dead at 10.25am.

Twenty-five other people, including 13 men and 12 women aged 11 to 73, were injured in the accident and were sent to Princess Margaret and Yan Chai Hospitals and Caritas Medical Centre.

New Territories South special traffic investigation team is following up. Anyone who saw the accident or has information to offer is asked to contact the officers on 3661 1300.
