Travellers reminded to be cautious

*

Hong Kong residents going to the UK should stay updated on the security situation and watch their personal safety.

The Security Bureau issued the reminder today after the UK announced it had foiled a terrorist attempt to attack flights bound for the US.

The Immigration Department has received no request for help from Hong Kong residents as yet, and will monitor the situation.

Residents who are abroad and need assistance can contact the closest Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General. Call (852) 2824 6111 or (852) 1868 for phone numbers and addresses, or call the department's 24-hour hotline (852) 1868.

Airport security stepped up

The Airport Authority advises all passengers bound for the US and those who fly with US carriers to arrive at Hong Kong International Airport at least three hours before their departure for a security check.

These passengers should not carrry liquid or gels in their hand baggage, except for baby food, prescription medicine and other essetial medical supplies. Prohibited items should be packed in checked-in baggage.

Passengers are also advised to travel with minimal hand baggage. They should check on the flight schedule with their airlines before leaving for the airport.
