Alert issued on bank phone system, website

*
Monetary Authority

The Monetary Authority warns of a fraudulent voice response unit on telephone number 6720 6342, which asks Dah Sing Bank customers to register their account number and the related personal identification number.

The bank said neither it nor Dah Sing Financial Group and its subsidiaries have a connection with the fraudulent phone system. It has referred the case to Police.

Anyone who has provided personal information to the system or has conducted any transactions through it should call the bank's customer hotline on 2828 8000, or Police on 2860 5012.

The authority urged people to beware of possible fake systems that claim to represent banks or financial institutions, asking for personal or account information.

It said consumers should also beware of bogus website www.sconlineservice.com, which looks similar to Standard Chartered Bank (HK)'s official site. The bank has clarified that it has no connection with the fraudulent site and the case has been reported to Police.

Anyone who has provided personal information to the website, or who has had any financial transactions through it, should contact the bank on 2886 8868 or Police on 2860 5012.
