570 tickets issued in traffic blitzes

Police have issued 570 fixed-penalty tickets and 186 summonses to motorists and pedestrians who violated traffic regulations during two operations in Kowloon East and on Hong Kong Island.

 

The Kowloon East Regional Traffic Day yesterday saw 167 officers sent out to enforce regulations in the region. They also distributed leaflets on road safety to road users.

 

A total of 170 fixed-penalty tickets and 120 summonses were issued to motorists and pedestrians who violated traffic regulations. Another 149 fixed penalty tickets were issued for illegal parking and other parking offences, while 34 pedestrians and drivers were warned for jaywalking and other minor traffic offences.

 

From January to May this year, 863 traffic accidents had occurred in Kowloon East Region.

 

400 tickets issued on Hong Kong Island

For the two-day operation on Hong Kong Island that ended last night, Police issued 400 fixed-penalty tickets and 66 summonses to traffic law offenders.

 

The 173 officers sent to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites in the region issued 267 fixed-penalty tickets for illegal parking and 133 for other traffic offences.

 

They cautioned 62 pedestrians and 385 drivers for minor traffic offences.

 

There were 1,204 traffic accidents involving casualties on Hong Kong Island in the first five months of this year. Of them, 55.1% were attributed to pedestrians' negligence.
