Security chief condemns protestors' action

Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee condemns the irresponsible action of right-of-abode seekers' parents in Hong Kong who threatened to jump from a footbridge in Wan Chai on Monday.

Speaking to the press this morning, Mr Lee said the Court of Final Appeal had given a verdict on the issue and the Government will strictly adhere to the court's judgment.

He said the Government has been liaising with the Mainland Authorities to see if it is possible to allocate part of the existing One-way Permit quota to those right-of-abode seekers.

Noting the Government respects people's right to demonstrate, the secretary said all demonstrations and processions should be conducted in a legal manner. The Government will treat people who deliberately violate the law and disrupt social order according to law.

Police have arrested five people in connection with yesterday's incident. One of them has been charged for assaulting Police officer while the remaining four have been released on bail.
