Police will hold a Hong Kong-wide road safety campaign May 3 to 7 with a focus on drink driving.
There were 3,348 accidents in the first three months of this year, down 217 cases on the same period last year. Of them, 16 involved drink driving.
From tomorrow to May 4, officers will invite people to take voluntary breath tests and distribute publicity leaflets in bar areas appealing to drinkers not to drive. Strict enforcement action will be taken against offenders from May 5 to 7.
Offenders will be liable to a $25,000 fine, three years jail and possible disqualification from driving.
