Anti-smuggling
*
$8.1m in smuggled goods seized from vessel
*

Marine Police have seized $8.1 million worth of suspected smuggled goods off Black Point in Tuen Mun in an anti-smuggling operation jointly conducted with Customs.

At about 4.15pm last Saturday, Small Boat Division officers intercepted a Mainland cargo vessel with 43 containers onboard one nautical mile west of Black Point.

Police officers escorted the vessel to the River Trade Terminal in Tuen Mun for investigation and found that two of the containers, declared to contain scrap metal, consisted of a large number of printing machines, electric motors, film and film processing chemicals with a total value exceeding $8.1 million.

The vessel's master, 37, and purser, 27, were arrested for attempting to export unmanifested cargo, but were subsequently released after enquiries.

The case has been handed over to the Customs & Exsice Department for follow-up enquiries to identify the consignor and consignees of the contraband shipment.
