Man arrested in smuggled pork haul

Meaty haul: Fresh pork seized from the lorry.
*

Customs officers have seized 4,018 kgs of smuggled pork worth about $128,000 from a lorry in Sha Tau Kok, and arrested the 38-year-old driver.

 

Working with the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department today, the officers stopped the lorry at about 7am and seized 132 bags of fresh pork at Shek Chung Au Check Post.

 

Anyone found guilty of importing meat without an official certificate is liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $50,000 and six months in prison.
