Seven fined for illegal water tapping
*
Water Supplies Department

It is illegal to use water from fire- service installations for washing and non-fire fighting purposes, the Water Supplies Department says, adding seven offenders were fined $500 to $3,300 last year.

Last year also saw seven contractors fined $1,000 to $4,000 for illegally using water from street hydrants and water mains for construction purposes in Tuen Mun, Tin Shiu Wai, Ho Man Tin, North Point, Stanley, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long.

In addition, 59 people were fined $300 to $4,000 for taking unmetered water from the inside services or government sub-mains illegally.

The public should observe the Waterworks Ordinance & Regulations. Offenders are subject to a maximum fine of $5,000.
