A Taiwanese businessman has been jailed three months by the Eastern Magistracy for offering a police bribe. Chen Chih-chung, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of offering $30,000 to a Police Constable.
While being interviewed as part of a Police investigation on February 16, he gave the officer a piece of paper that said "to express my appreciation, can you accept my $30,000?". The officer refused it and reported the incident. The case was referred to the Independent Commission Against Corruption and Chen was arrested.
Magistrate Ian Candy said the court took into consideration the defendant's guilty plea and that he was unfamiliar with Hong Kong laws.
