7 arrested in anti-illicit photocopying raids
*

Customs officers arrested seven people, seized 1,200 photocopies of books, seven photocopiers and seven book-binding machines worth about $140,000 yesterday.

The arrested people include five men and two women, aged between 34 and 59.

Acting on complaints, Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau officers raided seven photocopying shops in Kwun Tong, San Po Kong, Hung Hom, Tseung Kwan O and Tai Wai yesterday.

About half of the1,200 book photocopies seized were Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination papers. Customs officers believe offenders attempted to take advantage of the upcoming public examination for profit.

Investigations showed that the seven shops were unrelated to each other and no syndicate was involved.
