Help at hand: Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee says all departments will do everything possible to help the coach crash victims and their families. |
The Central Government has ordered the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Cairo to work with Hong Kong authorities to help the victims of the Egyptian tour coach crash.
Premier Wen Jiabao and Vice President Zeng Qinghong issued the instruction today, expressing their sympathies to the victims.
Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee said Chief Executive Donald Tsang has ordered all departments to do everything possible to help. The Hong Kong rescue team will arrive in Cairo tonight.
He confirmed that 14 Hong Kong people were killed in the accident, and another 30 injured.
Six seriously injured victims are being treated in two hospitals in Cairo. Twelve others have been discharged.
Two Immigration Department officers will stay in Cairo to help the five seriously injured, and two others will head to Hurghada.
The Social Welfare Department has set up a dedicated hotline - 6293 0120 - to provide support and services to anyone affected by the accident. It will be manned by social workers around the clock. Debriefing for the victims and psychological services for their families will be arranged as necessary upon their return.
