A renovation contractor has been jailed five months for illegally employing four Mainland workers.

The 50-year-old man, So Chau-loi, was convicted of four counts of being the employer of a person not lawfully employable in Sha Tin Magistracy today.

Immigration officers intercepted four Mainland visitors at a shop under renovation on Nathan Road in May. The defendant admitted being the contractor and was responsible for recruiting staff. He did not inspect their travel documents before employing them. They were jailed two months each in June for breaching their conditions of stay.
