Drug-trafficking syndicate halted, 5 arrested
*

Police have halted a drug-trafficking syndicate and arrested five people believed to be active in Tung Tau Estate in Wong Tai Sin.

An undercover Police officer had bought drugs from syndicate members several times since mid-November.

Two men and three women aged 23 to 56, including the 56-year-old syndicate's mastermind, were arrested for conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs and possession of equipment fit for injection of dangerous drugs right after yesterday's transaction.

In April 2004, Police had a similar crackdown on drug-trafficking activities in the district, which resulted in eight people being sentenced to five to 12 years' imprisonment for conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs.

Police warn that trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offence liable to heavy penalties.
